STAMP ISSUES FROM 2015 TO 2018

Viet Nam : 60 years of civil aviation

Issue date: 10/01/2016

Image of President Ho Chi Minh standing in front of number 60, symbolizing the history of Vietnam’s civil aviation sector.

Picture of the memorial stele to the now-defunct Lung Co (Vietnam’s first international airport, built to help American aircrafts bring supplies to Vietnamese troops), soldiers taking control of Gia Lam Airport (now primarily a military field) in 1954, Noi Bai Airport’s T2 Terminal (the second largest airport in Vietnam, located in Hanoi) and the control tower at Tan Son Nhat International Airport (the largest airport in Vietnam, located in Ho Chi Minh City).

In the background: three planes taking off, from Vietnam Airlines (Airbus A350), Jetstar Pacific (Airbus A320) and Vietjet Air (Airbus A320) respectively, symbolizing a move towards deeper global integration.

Imperf.

Full sheet of 25 stamps.

Booklet with 4 pages.

Front Page (with a poor illustration of an Airbus A380: the engines don't look right; given that the fuselage windows appear high on the fuselage, perhaps denoting the second deck, it would seem to represent an A380).

Page 2 (inside).

Inside – Details. At the end of the second paragraph, there is an explicit reference to ICAO; Viet Nam became a Member of ICAO in April 1980. In the second paragraph at line 2, Laos is erroneously written Laps.

Page 4 (back page).

In the cachet: Boeing 787 Dreamliner from Vietnam Airlines taking off at Tan Son Nhat International Airport.

Aerogramme.

Presentation folder (4 pages; size: 260x180mm).

Background: The stamp was a collaborative project of the Ministry of Information and Communication and the Ministry of Transport.

The stamp, designed by painter To Minh Trang, depicts the history of the civil aviation industry from 1956 to 2016, with its glorious achievements.

Viet Nam’s Civil Aviation Authority/Branch was officially established in 1956 under a decree by then Prime Minister Pham Van Dong. Viet Nam became a Member State on 12 April 1980, 30 days after Viet Nam’s notification of adherence was received on 13 March 1980.
