STAMP ISSUES RELATED TO ICAO (1945-1977)

Trinidad and Tobago : 25^th Anniversary of the United Nations

Background: In total, Trinidad and Tobago issued four stamps on the theme Culture, Science and Arts to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the United Nations, as follows:

1. 5-cent: Symbols of Culture, Science, Arts and Technology: designs in green, aircraft, Roman temple in red, rocket, cathedral in light yellow, green façade of a large building; UN emblem;

2. 10-cent: Children of races, map of Trinidad and Tobago, scroll with the colors of the country’s flag (Red, black and white symbolising fire (the sun, representing courage), earth (representing dedication) and water (representing purity and equality), and the text “UNICEF”;

3. 20-cent: Noah’s ark, rainbow, dove with an olive tree leaf in its beak and UN emblem;

4. 30-cent: New UPU Headquarters building in Bern, Switzerland and UPU emblem. In 1970, the new Headquarters building at the Weltpoststrasse was officially inaugurated; the UPU asked the member countries to issue postage stamps to commemorate this historic event.

The four stamps of this issue have different sizes.

The first stamp of this issue is included within the ICAO collection due to the implicit relationship to the Organization, i.e. the design of an aircraft within the UN family’s framework. The activity of other Organizations is also depicted as follows: UN Economic and Social Council - ECOSOC (two cogwheels as vital gear in a machine); International Court of Justice (ICJ, balance), UNICEF (children’s designs).
