Corner block with control number.

Official First Day Cover (front and back).

Special insert (philatelic notice) of the above cover.

It seems that the year 1944 was initially wrongly written and had to be corrected.

ICAO was established by the Chicago Convention signed on 7 December 1944 and came formally into existence on 4 April 1947. In October of the same year, ICAO became a Specialized Agency of the United Nations.

Note that, on the above philatelic notice:

  1. The first sentence should be more correctly written as follows: “The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), a Specialized Agency of the United Nations, was established in 1944”;
  2. On the last line of the first paragraph, the text should be more correctly written as follows:  "there are now 183 member countries in this Organization".

Official First Day Cover autographed by Pradeep Nepal, Minister of Information. It is customary for the Minister of Information/Communications to sign the FDC on the first day a new stamp is released.

The date shown under the horizontal line is 21/08/51 or Mangsir 21 2051; this date from the Nepalese calendar corresponds to 7 December 1994 in the Gregorian calendar. The Nepalese calendar is approximately 56 years and 8 months ahead of the Gregorian calendar.

The Bikram Sambat or Bikram Era Nepali calendar (or Patro) is used by the Nepalese Government as the official calendar and was established by the legendary Emperor Vikramaditya. This calendar is mostly used in Nepal and India. Some countries like Indonesia, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Malaysia and Bhutan are also using the Bikram Sambat Nepali calendar.
