Official First Day Cover with the four stamps of this issue. The cachet shows the United Nations flag and UN first stamp issued on 24 October 1951 (1-cent, Peoples of the World).

 

The design of the following First Day Cover was also used by Antigua and Barbuda on 18 November 1985 to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the UN (see at the following link: Antigua and Barbuda – 1985 - 40th Anniversary of the United Nations). This cover shows the four stamps of this issue.

 

Background: This stamp is part of a set of four stamps issued by Lesotho to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the United Nations (1945-1985):

1.    10-sente: United Nations flag and emblem; reproduction of UN first stamp (Maroon, issued on 24 October 1951 - Peoples of the World).

2.    30-sente: Earth Satellite Station at Ha Sofonia, Lesotho; ITU Emblem. Lesotho is connected to the international telecommunications network via a ground station located at Ha Sofonia.

3.    50-sente: Aircraft Fokker F-27 at Maseru Airport; ICAO 40th Anniversary Emblem.

4.    2-maloti: Maimonides (1138-1204, Jewish Physician, Philosopher and Scholar); WHO Emblem. Moses ben Maimon is known to English speaking audiences as Maimonides and is the greatest Jewish philosopher of the medieval period. Maimonides also achieved fame as a physician and wrote medical treatises on a number of diseases and their cures.
