Background: The 3rd Caribbean Regional Air Navigation Conference (CAR RAN) was convened by ICAO in the Old Palace of the Senate in Ciudad Trujillo, Dominican Republic, from 3 April to 24 April 1956. The 3rd stamp of this set is Air Mail.

Chronologically in the ICAO stamp collection, this is the first appearance of the ICAO logo (as adopted by the 10th Session of the Assembly, held in Caracas in June-July 1956 - Resolution A10-11), but without the acronyms of the Organization.

It is interesting to record the chronological appearance of the ICAO logo in the ICAO stamp collection, with hyperlinks on the name of the country:

1. Dominican Republic, 6 April 1956, i.e., this issue: first appearance of the ICAO emblem (preliminary logo), without the acronyms of the Organization (see on the left side). It is some sort of preliminary logo, as the branches of the olive tree are visible between the strips of the lateral wings. See on the left side the correct emblem as approved by the 10th Session of the Assembly.

2. Costa Rica, 24 October 1961: first appearance of the first official emblem; however, the Organization’s acronyms were not written in the proper character set;

3. Republic of Korea, 11 December 1962: first correct appearance of the first official emblem;

4. Syria, 11 May 1977: first appearance of the second official emblem; and

5. Kuwait, 7 December 1999: first appearance of the third official emblem (most current).
