STAMP ISSUES RELATED TO ICAO (1945-1977)

 

Comoros : First commercial flight Paris‑New York of Concorde

 

Issue date: 22/11/1977

 

 

Issued for the 25th anniversary of the United Nations Postal Administration on 23 November 1976, this stamp was diagonally overprinted in gold with Paris‑New‑York ‑ 22 nov. 1977, for the first commercial flight between Paris and New York of the Concorde.

Graf Zeppelin LZ‑127 airship, Concorde, and United Nations stamp issued on 9 February 1955 for the 10th anniversary of ICAO (stamp on stamp).

First Day Cover (FDC) with stamp showing gold (first cover) and silver (second cover) overprints. As these FDCs show in the cachet the dates 1951-1976 (25th anniversary of the United Nations Postal Administration), Comoros did reutilize the covers related to the issue without overprint (see Comoros - 23 November 1976).

Background: On 22 November 1977, the Air France and British Airways Concorde airplanes departed from Paris and London respectively for the inaugural passenger service to New York; the two aircraft crossed the Atlantic in tandem to make a joint arrival in New York.
