Background: Bangladesh deposited the Notification of adherence to the Chicago Convention on 22 December 1972; it took effect as from the thirtieth day alter the receipt of the notification. Bangladesh was awarded the Council President Certificate in 2018, recognizing the overall progress by the State in Aviation Safety.

The national carrier ‘Biman’ Bangladesh Airlines began operations in 1972 with a DC-3 aircraft. In 1982, Bangladesh formed the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) by merging the Department of Civil Aviation and the Airports Development Agency, followed by the CAAB in 1985.

On 16 October 2023, during a ceremony held at the Ganabhaban in the capital of Bangladesh, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina released a commemorative postage stamp to mark the 50th anniversary of Bangladesh's membership with the International Civil Aviation Organization. It also symbolizes the deep and enduring ties between ICAO and the CAAB.

The Ganabhaban is the official residence of the Prime Minister of Bangladesh, which is located on the north corner of the National Parliament House in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Dhaka.

 

Bangladesh hosted the 58th Conference of the Directors General of Civil Aviation for the Asia and Pacific Region (see details hereafter).

The unveiling of the stamp coincided with the opening of the 58th Conference of the Asia and Pacific Region (APAC) Directors General of Civil Aviation (DGCAs). The Conference provided a platform for discussions, cooperation, and key initiatives aimed at advancing aviation standards, sustainability and gender equality in the Asia Pacific region. The Conference was held at the Pan Pacific Sonargaon Dhaka, Bangladesh, from 15 to 19 October 2023, and was hosted by the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh. The Conference focused on the theme, "Advancing the ICAO Gender Equality Programme in collaboration with the Next Generation of Aviation Professionals (NGAP) initiative." The Conference was attended by 321 participants from 37 States and Administrations, and 11 International Organizations.
