1954: Rhodes Special Middle East Communications Meeting

 

A Special Middle East Communications Meeting was held in Rhodes, Greece, from 11 to 31 May 1954. According to ICAO’s records, this meeting ended on 29 May 1954; it was attended by representatives from 16 Contracting States, one non-Contracting State and two international organizations.

 

This meeting was called to consider among other items: 1) proposals to amend the interim and final aeronautical fixed telecommunications network (AFTN) plans in the light of changing operational requirements, the plans developed for adjacent regions and the need for operational coordination; 2) proposals to amend the operational requirements for radio navigation aids in the light of developments in air operations since the Second Middle East Regional Air Navigation Meeting (held in Istanbul, Turkey, from 17 October to 7 November 1950); 3) proposals to amend the regional plan for radio navigation aids and of implementation difficulties encountered by States, including particularly the frequency assignment plan for low and medium frequency radio beacons; 4) review of progress of implementation of the regional plan for very high frequency communications in the aeronautical mobile service and the high frequency aeronautical  mobile frequency assignment plan, including if necessary consideration of specific proposals for their amendment in the light of changing operational requirements, the plans developed for adjacent regions, and the need for operational coordination.
